Curator of City As Studio Jeffrey Deitch joined K11 Konversations with New York-based street artists, AIKO and Lee Quiñones, who each represents a different generation of street art pioneers and contributed to the evolution of street art in New York and abroad. One of the originators of street art, Lee started painting on New York City's streets in subway cars in the 1970s and was instrumental in evolving graffiti into street art by moving it above ground. AIKO, who represents a new generation that creates unique hybrid artistic languages by incorporating multiple cultures, was the first woman to take over the iconic Houston Bowery Wall. In this conversation, the artists shared their unique experiences and difficulties working on the streets, in galleries, in museums and beyond.
